Porcelain Pavers

Outdoor porcelain tile pavers have the same benefits as regular porcelain - frost-resistant, skid-resistant, durable and easy to clean - combined with incredibly high breakage loads (up to 2,000 pounds) create the perfect solution for gardens, terraces and high-traffic outdoor areas. Exterior porcelain tiles can be dry laid onto grass, gravel, dirt and sand - or onto terraces and roofs using raised supports - without grout, adhesives or specialized workers, making installation incredibly easy.

Our Porcelain Installation Process

Porcelain pavers offer a versatile paving option, combining the look of natural stone with increased durability. As specialists in outdoor living installations, we take great care when incorporating porcelain pavers into custom designs to achieve flawless, long-lasting results and follow this work process:

• It is necessary to have the right subsurface, so we excavate the area, grade and compact the soil, and install edge restraints for a contained perimeter. A 4-6 inch subbase of compacted aggregate is laid and leveled. Porcelain pavers can crack if depressions develop, so we ensure the surface is uniformly solid.
  
  
• A 1-2 inch bedding layer of sand or mortar is installed next. We screed this layer smoothly and make any final grade adjustments. The bedding type depends on whether the pavers are laid on pedestals or directly on that base and adhesive mortar provides a stronger bond.
  
  
• With the base prepped, we arranged the porcelain paver tiles in the designed pattern. Tiles are installed hand-tight against each other to prevent shifting. We use tile spacers only when required for a specific design. If needed, tiles are cut to fit edges and contours using a wet saw or tile cutter.
  
  
• Joint filler sand is swept into the paver joints to within 1/8 inch of the surface. Compaction follows using a plate vibrator to settle the pavers into the bedding further and join the units together after which we brush off any excess sand.
  
  
• Proper perimeter restraints, base materials, mortar formulations, joint treatments, and curing times are used for successful long-term installation.
